Venice & Croatia

We arrived on Tuesday, September 16th. Flew into the airport and then took a water "bus" out to Venice. We found our Airbnb which was spectacular. We headed out for dinner and then hit the bed early for a 14-hour sleep.

Over 150 canals and 400 bridges in Venice.
Of course you have to take photos of the canals.

The Bridge of Sighs, located above the gondolas. Prisoners would walk from the Doge Palace on the left to the prison on the right. The last they would see of Venice was from this bridge and that is why they would "sigh". They stayed in the prison until they parished which was only a few months.

First stop was the Doge Palace. The Doge Palace was built in 810 and was the seat of government and the residence of the Doge (the elected head) of the former Venetian Republic, housing its administration, courts, and prisons.  The Doge Palace was the center of Venice.

Extremely elaborate paintings and frescoes all through the Doge Palace.

Beautiful painting.

Crazy fireplace

Doge Palace from the square.

The typical picture of gondolas tied up with a couple gondola riders in the background. Cost for a gondola is $100 Euro for 45 minutes ride. We did not hear one sing at all. I asked and was told NO.

Who did we run into in Venice, Erin and Amanda of course.

This young girl was trying to get by us. I turned around to see who and started laughing. She started laughing and I took this photo. So fun.

CROATIA here we come!

Great dinner with great friends. This is the first time I had raw filet slices. The cooked filet was much better than the raw. 🤪 Left to right - me, Paul, Tam, Vickie, Wayne, and Jean.

Our ship in the background. First time in Croatia. Tam, Vickie, Paul and I enjoyed walking around.

A regatta is about to start in Zadar Croatia and the wind is picking up.

Church of St. Donatus in Zadar, Croatia. Built between 100 BC to 300 AD. This church was in the town square.

Castle on the coast of Hvar Croatia.

Vrbroska town center. From here we went to the lavender fields.

Wine was the same price as a Coke. Roads were high and tight.

SPLIT, CROATIA

Roman guards at the entrance.

The ancient Tower of Split. Built by the Romans and still stands today. You can travel up the steps to the top but we didn't go.

The beautiful church that is under the tower.

Njeguši, Montenegro

We had lunch from a family on the side of the road. So fun being treated like kings.

That is our ship on the right. We hired a driver and he took us up the switchbacks to have lunch at the top.

Smokehouse at the back of our guides house. ALEX was our guide.

Bob, Tam, Paul, Vickie, Jean, and Wayne

We are on a cliff overlooking the Old Town of Dubrovnik, Croatia.

Corner of the wall in Old Town Dubrovnik. Napoleon came for a few days and stayed for 7 years.

SIBENIK, CROATIA

Known for it's beautiful cascading waterfalls and travertine cliffs.

Known for its 1.5 Mile walk through all the waterfalls and fast moving water.

I could share 20 more photos of different waterfalls. Water was clean enough to drink.
